Approved plan against the prepared space

The design can look complete and still leave unanswered questions about how the store will trade. A store manager's fit-out walk-through compares the approved plan with the space being prepared and asks whether the team can deliver the customer promise in it.

Use the latest approved drawings or reference pack. Check the customer route, display and service points, storage, back-of-house work areas, wayfinding and the places where the team needs to prepare or complete a transaction. Observe how the pieces connect, not only whether each fixture is present.

Think through the operating day. Can the team replenish priority product without losing track of customer needs? Is it clear where goods arrive and who receives them? Can colleagues find the systems or supplies they need? Are customer-facing signs and displays ready for the intended journey? Keep these as operating checks; ask the accountable design, property or technology owner to assess technical work.

Record issues while they can still be assigned and retested. Note the location or drawing reference, what was expected, what you observed, why it matters to customers or the team's work, the responsible owner, the due date and how closure will be confirmed. Raise anything affecting access, safety, security or required operating controls through the approved specialist process.

Before handover, walk the route again with the right owners and rehearse a typical customer visit and a normal stock or service task. A completed build is not the same as an operationally ready store. The authorized project owners confirm acceptance; the store manager tracks unresolved items and makes sure the team knows the approved plan.
